Why were you inspired to do this?
My parents will be visiting my wife any kids for a few weeks during the summer of 2008. Although I was raised around power boats, my Father has never been on a sailboat. This adventure has a great many benefits, my Father can experience something that I have come to truly love and I can spend some much needed time with my Father.
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
Blocked out a 3 4 hour block of time during their trip to take the sail.
Found a shipmate to help sail the boat... well sort of. My Dad manned the helm and I took care of the rest along with the help of my 5 year old daughter.
Checked the weather forecast. We had wind! Now let's go sailing.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
Amazing! My Dad and Mom had such a great time and they got to enjoy a little bit of what I had been experiencing with the boat since the Spring. We made a full day of sailing with lunch and drinks and spending time with the kids. My parent's are coming out again in the winter and we're looking forward to another sail.
Additional notes and tips:
Don't forget your jackets and warmer clothes. The weather can change quickly at sea and can get chilly even on a warm day.
