Why were you inspired to do this?
I had my own business for six years, before going on my own. When I divorced, I had two choices 1) Turn my part time work into a fulltime career, or or become employed by a company. I chose #1 because:
a) I wanted complete control of my life.
b) I needed to keep the flexibility associated with self employment, to spend time with my kids.
c) I was ready to challenge myself in designing and creating my own life, on my terms.
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
I sought emotional support from family and friends, and did not let their concerns, determine my decisions.
I based my fulltime business on my existing business, which included setting up my web site www.tothepointwriting.net
I made the decision to not travel as much, instead devoting my time and effort to building a local network of friends. Instead of attending out of town events every month, I now stay at home most weekends.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
Exhilarated, relieved and empowered. Self-employment is still a bit of a roller coaster ride at times, and that's something I accept. It pushes me to develop and challenge myself in a way that corporate life never has . .
