Career & Finance: Debt Management
Why do you want to do this?
I've been slowly accumulating credit card debt since I went out on my own three years ago. I'm able to make monthly payments, but unless I can pay off a substantial amount I'll never be able to keep up with the finance charges. I want to have the credit lines available in case of an emergency, And I really, really want to my current credit card issuer--Chase.
What three things will you need to make this happen?
Understand that money in savings isn't earning as much interest as I'm being charged every month on the credit card. My money is better spent paying off my credit card than sitting in a bank.
Save money by spending less, using budgeting tools and putting money into savings every month, then use this money to pay off debt, but keeping emergency money in savings.
What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?
Other payments that need to be made every month (rent, student loan) are stressing my finances, so I'm not able to commit as much as I would like to paying off the debt.
