Relationships: Family
Why do you want to do this?
I have always felt like there is a large part of myself missing having never met my birth mother. I have two wonderful parents but there is just something about being able to look into the face of the woman that gave birth to you that so most people take for granted. All I have ever wanted to tell her is "thank you."
What three things will you need to make this happen?
Unfortunately the information containing my birth mother's first name are kept confidential. I do however have my birth fathers fist and last name so the first step is to track him down and hopefully get more information on where to start the search for my birth mother from him.
Hopefully after tracking down my birth father I will get a name and location for where to start the search for my birth mother. Then work on tracking her down - most likely by taking a trip to Calgary and searching through some old records.
My hope is to exchange letters or emails and eventually set up a time this summer to meet.
What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?
The biggest barrier in achieving this goal is that my birth mother has veto'd the process once the Alberta adoption records were made public. I did receive a letter for her when I found this out where she explained that she had young children who would not understand how I came to be but that eventually she would track me down. I'm not looking for a relationship or to be a part of her life and meet her family. All I really want is just to meet her and be able to put that part of my life behind me.
As you progress with your goal, share the resources you find helpful with others who can also benefit from them.
