Sports & Adventure: Fitness
Why do you want to do this?
I used to have an abiding fear of deep water. Thankfully, I no longer have that and am a lot more comfortable in water and especially in open water now. However, I still haven't learned to breathe while swimming and I think that living on an island, it is important for me to learn how to swim if only for water safety and to enable me to feel more confident with other watersports. If I learn to swim properly, I think it will help my fitness level and also open up options for me to participate in other water-based activities.
What three things will you need to make this happen?
Patience to keep practising breathing while swimming as it is not something that I am going to automatically learn how to do.
Access to a swimming pool or to open water - self-explanatory really. My bathtub simply won't cut it.
A teacher or else a how-to video on learning how to breathe while swimming the different strokes. Or else swimming classes.
What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?
Although I live on an island, I don't live right near to the beach or to a swimming pool, and I don't drive so I will be dependent on transport to get to where I need to in order to learn what I need to.
