Cultivate powerful friends in Boston
Relationships: Friends

Why do you want to do this?

I moved to Boston in February 2010 and have not yet built the same tribe of friends I had in Bermuda & Sydney.

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Find a social activity - This should not involve Social Media or Start-up conversation. (I may join a Hockey team..)

Teach/Coach - I have always had a love of teaching and I think it would be good to find an opportunity to teach/Coach

Commit - Building strong friends means to commit to following up and being involved.

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Time and focus on business. Funny I love the people meeting on My Life List,. perhaps bringing local members together in Boston is a possible opportunity to meet new people.

Bill, I've been in Virginia for nearly 6 years and have very few friends - acquaintences and casual friends, but I just rarely socialize (in part because I have 3 jobs....), so keeping in touch with my friends in Connecticut and the UK as well as cultivating friendships in VA is something I've been thinking about as a new year goal - I'm about to add it to my list!

I am in a similar situation!  I was advised to join MeetUp.  So far, there have been a lot of planned activities, but I continue to find TIME to be my major barrier!  Can someone work on creating more hours in the day?? :)

Wow, Thanks for the encouragement and advice. My focus really has been on building My Life List into a safe and supportive web community with little time for my other interests. Which is funny given our mission of helping people live healthier and more fulfilled lives:) Good news is we are hosting the Life Listers' Ball in Boston with 200 people, so I'm sure to meet some interesting new people. I'm also going to get back involved with a new Sailing Team. I also just got asked to join a Hockey Team on Friday, which is neat, given it was the day I posted this goal. Going to stay present to this and will send notes when I meet some cool new people.

Great goal.  Friends are the family we choose.  I've heard that associating with positive people with similar goals and directives can only have a positive affect on life.  I'm sure the friendships you cultivate over the next years will contribute to your experience in amazing and phenomenal ways.  Best of luck and I know I don't need to say 'have fun' because hearing about all the incredible things you do makes me super envious. Thanks for inspiring all of us.

 Bill:

My Sister, Krista Buckland is a Professional Violinist in Boston studying her MBA at Babson.  her husband Andrew is an Emergency room MD, who graduated from Harvard and then took another degree at Stanford, I think it was Engineering.  Given they are smart people, they are also pretty cool.  Let me know if you would like to meet them and explain Lifelist to them and what brought you to Boston.

Erik, I would love to meet them. Seriously send them a link to the website. Maybe they want to come the the Ball we are having on Feb 5th. That would be so cool. Did I ever meet your sister? By the way heard from Mike Anderson he is i Rome, if you can believe that!

I have news to report. Shea and I went out last night and usually it is the two of us just carrying on. We go to our Local ("The Landing" in Marblehead) because they are really nice and they allow us to laugh and have fun. I have seen this fellow Gary there a few times and finally as we watched the Patriots we got chatting. Well all I can say is he is a true adventurer and is filming the IMAX movie covering the Volvo round the world race next year. We know a fair few of the same people and have done a few of the same ocean races. Catching up end of the week. Yippee a new friend.. Must try and be cool.. Don't want to be too eager to please:)

Oh my gosh, that's phenomenal!  Did you ever catch up with Gary again?  I notice this post was back in January.  The end of your comment makes me laugh.  You don't need to try to be cool Bill, you already are ; )
