BE DECISIVE!
Personal Development & Community: Self-development

Why do you want to do this?

I've been putting off important life decisions for fear of making the wrong choice. I even have trouble deciding which brand of syrup to buy at the grocery store. I want to have purpose and direction and have a take-charge/damn the consequences attitude.

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Practice. I will need plenty of practice being decisive and therefore I'll be taking care of many of the decisions that I have been putting off.

Trust my Instincts! After all comparing and contrasting and indecisiveness I often make the choice that I was initially drawn towards.

Resolution. Whichever decision I make is the right decision. No regret and no looking back. There will inevitably be mistakes but I will learn from them and move forward.

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Fear of making the wrong decision. I have tricked myself into thinking that by not making any decision I can protect myself from making a wrong decision. Inaction is itself a decision!

Hi there, I have to tell you, this goal is so close to my heart. Early in my career, I was promoted to running a newsroom full of reporters and editors. When news broke, I had no option but to make a decision and hurtle toward the result with very little time to sweat it. My boss gave me great advice and maybe it will help you. He said, "Make a decision. Right or wrong, at least you accomplished something."

It took the pressure off and I made decisions with much more authority. What I found was that being decisive and trusting your instincts become habit and the courage of your convictions is much easier to stand on. You will feel so proud when you own your decisions. So go for it!

You've inspired me to improve this about myself as well.  I'll look forward to hearing any tips you discover as you improve.
