rediscover my hometown - Toronto
Lifestyle & Fitness: Events

Why do you want to do this?

I was born in Toronto and raised in the suburbs, and now live in the heart of it all, and want to experience the many different places and cultures that is great city has to offer! I want to discover / rediscover this great city and all that it has to offer. I see the tour bus go by, and yet have never been on one. I see tourists with their maps and books, and yet, wonder what it is that they are doing...what are they seeing, where are they going, and what are they saying on those tour buses!

What three things will you need to make this happen?

suggestions and ideas - there are lots of things to see and do in TO...and I have done many, but look forward to hearing other peoples' ideas!

time - it will all depend...maybe it will be once a month, go and discover a new neighbourhood or restaurant OR it may be every week...we will play it by ear..but I am going to say once a month for sure!

a nice warm day to take a tour bus!

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

that there may be tooo many things to discover in the city! So...it will be a year long adventure...and a note shared on what I have done throughout the year...what I have discovered/rediscovered.

Sounds like a great goal! I know for me, I often end up knowing more about cities I visit than cities I live in unless I take active steps like this, so I am 100% behind this goal.

Ontario Science Center, Toronto Island in the summer, ROM (currently has the Maya exhibit), Art Gallery of Ontario, Pioneer Village, Metro Toronto Zoo, Young Peoples Theatre, Elgin Theatre, China Town, Little Italy, Harbour Front, Canadian National Exhibition (the horse building and the food building), Casaloma, Royal Botanical Gardens, Canada's Wonderland and Splashworks (Have you seen the new rollercoaster they're building for next seasons' opening??? It's monsterous!)  Ontario Place and IMAX Cinema - I'm getting nostalgic.  Oh, the places I'd go... What a fantastic goal.  You have to let us know what's first on your list.

Thanks Andrea...That is a great list for sure...some of my fav's! The AGO's Corsa room is by far my favourite...the wood from northern ON (Lake Superior), the windows...I would LOVE to have a sleepover in that room. i wonder if they do that sort of thing?!? I love going to the zoo with kids...to see their expressions and experiences. I am thinking of doing the zoo run this yr. I have not been to Canada's wonderland in a number of yrs...maybe it is time to make the trek back. used to be a highlight of the summer...along with concerts there!!! I will start to post in the coming weeks...but what I am really excited about doing is the hop-on/hop-off bus this spring/summer. I see it all the time, and would love to go on it...and see what they have to say about our city.

So, over the past weekend, started to rediscover my city...and what a beautiful wkd to do it! Saturday morning was a trip to an all time favourite...the St. Lawrence Market. we went and sampled meats and cheeses, bought St Urbain bagels, tried a bunch of different mustards, split the most amazing peameal bacon sandwich, and bought some yummy veggies for Sunday's dinner, including beets, new potatoes and artisan salads.

We then walked up to St. James Church and walked around, taking in all of the churches history.

We stopped in at Origin Restaurant for some yummy Gastronomic brunch...my frittata was amazing! We then walked down to harbourfront and jumped on one of the tall ship sailing tours... 1.5 hour tour of toronto harbour...an amazing view of the city from the water.

After a refreshing bevvie at one of the restos along the waterfront, it was then a walk up to China town on Sapdina for a scrumpcious chinese dinner. Swataw is an amazing hole in the wall resto with amazingly yummy food. My fav, snow pea leaves! And, who is sitting at the next table but Cdn Chef David Adjay (from The Opener and Restaurant Makeover).

Sunday was a trip Leslieville...we walked in and out of all the little shops and then had a fabulous meal at Robert Levesques Kitchen. Once again, another great meal in a city of so many amazing restos!

Looking forward to next wkd, where I will be rediscovering toronto's waterfront...walking from Harbourfront to the Humber brdige and then canoeing back, in a effort to raise money for one of my favourite charities...Amici Camping Charity.
