Finish Re-typing and Editing My Novel
Career & Finance: Self-Employment

Why do you want to do this?

So, I wrote a very long - and actually complete! - novel awhile ago, and then the disc I had it on crashed and erased it. Fortunately, I had the entire thing printed out before this happened! What I want and need to do now is to type it all back up, editing and polishing it as I go.

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Grit my teeth and start typing; I won't get anywhere on this if I procrastinate as much as I've been doing.

Edit as I go; it doesn't have to be perfect the first time around, but if it's typed up, it's going to be a lot easier to edit it in the long run.

When I'm done, celebrate! And also start submitting to publishing companies . . . .

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Procrastination, aka myself.

This is quite the undertaking. Good for you! Now the question is, how fast do you type? LOL

Editing as you go is a smart way to revise. Guaranteed, you will find spots that you can improve, just because your perspective has changed since you wrote it. The same thing happened to me my senior year of college, I wrote a tome and my old computer ate it. Having a printout saved the day. I think eventually I will retype and revise, that's a great idea. Now if only I can find the manuscript ...

Keep us posted on your progress and if you want, post an excerpt! Love to read it.

Thank you for the encouragement! For what I've typed so far, I can already tell that editing-while-typing is the way to go. There are so many things I wanted to elaborate on at the time, and now this is giving me the opportunity . . . . as well as the opportunity to cut the stupid stuff out , haha. This definitely taught me the value of printing things out, even if you don't think you'll need it!

I'll make sure to update as I go :)

So happy to read here that you didn't lose all your work.  Wouldn't that have been tragic? Oh, Shea, what an awesome idea... Teaser, Please!  I'd love to read it too.
