Lose Weight
Lifestyle & Fitness: Health

Why do you want to do this?

I always promised myself I would lose the weight I gained from Baby #1 before I got pregnant with Baby #2! Like a lot of women, I didn't succeed and I got pregnant with Baby #2 before I really even tried losing the weight. Sadly, I recently miscarried Baby #2 and as much as I realize it isn't my fault and that what is meant to be will be, I also know that being overweight isn't healthy and can affect pregnancy. So I am here vowing to get healthy not only for myself, but so that I can have healthy pregnancies in the future and be a good and healthy role model for my children!

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Willpower and Initiative- I need to make the choice to go for an hour walk every day with my daughter instead of turning on the television first thing in the morning. I need to choose what goes into my mouth, instead of eating whatever tastes good or I desire at that very moment! I need to make being healthy a priority and stick to it!

Support- I need the support of family and friends and even those that I don't know to continue to encourage me in my weight loss journey. I need constructive feedback and motivation to keep going when I plateau.

Personal Rewards- When I reach a small goal, I need to motivate myself with Healthy Rewards. If I lose the first 10 pounds, I need to allow myself to buy new workout clothes, or a new outfit or a pair of shoes. With each new and small goal I accomplish, I want to reward myself with something that will allow me to feel confident and make me want to continue on my journey!

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Myself and occasionally my family! I do really well and then I cave in and eat lots of ice cream instead of one scoop! Or my family calls and wants to bring me McDonald's and I say yes, instead of No thanks, maybe next time! I am my own biggest barrier to achieving my goal! I've done this before and am having trouble getting started again! I want to keep off the fat for life! I don't want high blood pressure or cholesterol or Type II diabetes to be something that anyone in my family has to worry about!!

5/9/2011

  • Starting Weight: 189 lbs
  • First Goal: Lose 10 lbs (Weigh 179 lbs)
  • Reward: I will buy myself one new workout outfit
  • Workout: Today I walked 1 hour pushing my baby in her stroller and I took her to the park to push her on the swingset!  I may try doing some XBox Kinect punching workout later to get more of a workout on my arms (we'll see) but I think a 1 hr walk is a great start!
  • Food:
    • Breakfast: 1 bowl of peanut butter captatin crunch cereal
    • Lunch: Undecided but probably a BOCA Chicken Patty with lettuce and light mayo and some fresh cut strawberries.
    • Dinner: Spaghetti

This is terrific timing, Motivate! I'm working on my own personal MayFit initiative, so maybe we can motivate each other. My goal is to lose 15 pounds and I'm nine days in. This is a huge lifestyle change for me, making a point to exercise at least 5 times a week, being more aware of what I'm eating (like no pizza, which I was eating every week all winter long!), and upping my water intake to at least 64 oz a day.

I'm nine days in, have lost seven pounds. I either walk for an hour, do a pilates class or ride an exercise bike in weightloss mode for 40 minutes. I haven't felt deprived, and I feel so motivated for this! Summer is coming and I want to be on track again, to restore the healthy way I felt last summer.

On a separate note, so sorry to hear about your loss. I've been there and there is nothing more devastating. The best thing you can do is take care of yourself in every possible way. Exercise is a great energy boost and hopefully some positive reinforcement from friends, family (even the My Life List community!) will help you restore your hope and plans for the future.

Check out my goal and let's kick it!

Hi MotivateMe,

I had a bit of a setback this weekend, traveling and eating badly, so I'm checking back in on my goal. I'd been doing so well, now I'm not so sure I'll have made any progress this week.

How are you doing?

Just checking in with you, MM. I am finally nearly there on my goal to lose 15 pounds. Weigh-in is tomorrow, but I'm thinking I may have done it. How are you coming along with this one? You put so much into writing this goal out, I have high hopes. :)
