Sports & Adventure: Fitness
Why do you want to do this?
I can't explain why a 500 mile trek through France and Spain draws me so much, but it does. Part of me says it's because I want to become fit and healthy enough to do this, so it's just something to train up to. The other part of me, however, is lost in this idea of soul searching, of participating in something so big and so great.
What three things will you need to make this happen?
Train! Make walking and eventually running at the gym a priority, that I must do at least three times a week.
Brush up on my Spanish and do thorough research about El Camino
Save up money for the plane ride and expenses there.
What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?
I developed anxiety in high school and eventually social phobia after having a concussion because whenever a friend said "how are you," all I could think about was the car accident and my miserable life since the concussion. Because of this, I've never been able to do things alone (going out to eat, going to a party or gathering of sorts). I've learned that this is a fear that I cannot allow to consume me. I want to do El Camino because it will be completely new and I will be forced to overcome these fears. This is the ultimate act of overcoming for me.
