Why were you inspired to do this?
We lived in Cape Town, South Africa for 2.5 years from 2003 to 2006. One of our favourite experiences was going on safari so it made sense to get married in the bush.
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
We already lived in South Africa and had been to Kruger National Park on a previous occasion so we knew what to expect.
We only had about four weeks to plan the wedding so I immediately started checking out various private lodges and booked at Jock Safari Lodge. They were able to arrange the flowers, cake and Minister and I found a photographer.
Due to the short notice, our guest list was very small. We invited my Mum, Stepdad and Dad and Christian's Mum. Unfortunately none of our other family and friends were able to share the day with us.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
We had a fantastic experience and if we had to do it all over again, we wouldn't change a thing. It was such a unique and beautiful setting and we are always going to have the most wonderul memories of our special day.
Additional notes and tips:
We spent the two nights prior to the wedding at Lower Sabie, which is one of the SA National Parks accommodation sites. They have basic rondavels which are situated on the Sabie River. The surrounding area is excellent for game viewing. We then spent two nights at Jock Safari Lodge (www.jocksafarilodge.com), which is a private lodge within the Kruger National Park. The lodge was absolutely stunning - very African and rustic but also luxurious. They were able to arrange the cake, flowers and Minister and I managed to locate a photographer (and he also did the video/DVD). The actual ceremony was held out in the bush and then we went back to the lodge and had a private dinner.
