Canoe Heads for kids for Amici
Personal Development & Community: Charity

What an amazing day! Over the past few years, I have helped coordinate the Canoe Heads For Kids urban portage and paddle along the Toronto Waterfront to help raise $ to send financially challenged kids to summer camps throughout Ontario. I have watched as brave men and women tackle nature's elements (wind, rain, lightening, sunshine) as they trek along the Toronto waterfront for 20 and 40 km to help raise awareness and raise $$$! And this year, my goal was to do actually be on the other side...actually participate in the event. So, today, I prepared myself to do the inevitable...become a Canoe Head! And what an amazing experience is was. Portaging and then paddling along the Toronto Waterfront with 85 other Canoe Heads. Over the course of the day we battle extremely heavy winds...so much so, that we had to cancel one portion of the paddle (which is far easier than portaging a canoe...trust me!). The rains held off (thank goodness!) and we forged along to accomplish a great goal! We have, so far, raised over $64,000, giving 64 worthy children the opportunity to go to camp for two weeks! Information about Amici and Canoe Heads can be found here: http://www.amicicharity.org/canoe_heads_for_kids.shtml Still smiling from this great day!!! And would like to thank all of those who sponsored me and my team - Team Gullbob!

What were 3 things you did to make this happen?

fundraising..getting friends and family to donate to a great cause

getting a group of friends to join me on the 40 km portage and paddle along the Toronto Waterfront...or at least 20 km :)

Fantastic! Way to go with your portaging and canoing this year. It must feel great to be on this side of the event.

.... and I totally would have dropped that thing on my head so many times....
