Why were you inspired to do this?
I'll be honest, I didn't think I ever wanted to have kids. Maybe I wasn't confident enough in myself to think I could be a good father and guide someone else through life. Or maybe it was that growing up I never felt comfortable around kids and didn't know how to handle them. Thankfully my wife encouraged me and gave me confidence that I could be a great father and a strong figure in a child's life. I was ready to find out!
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
My wife picked up a book on fertility, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, and we started learning about fertility awareness. This helped us both better understand the fertility signs that indicate ovulation and increase our chances of conception. Now we're ready to practice, practice, practice...
Practicing was short lived; my wife was pregnant within a few weeks. I was thrilled but then realized that this was actually happening. We made sure our insurance was in order, determined we had space in our tiny apartment and then we started a registry. Men leave plenty of time for this... there are lots of "things" for babies, most of which I was clueless about.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
Amazing, kids are truly a blessing that cannot be fully described or understood until you have your own.
