This was a great honour made all the more special by meeting the man who has inspired so many people, including me and the MyLifeList.org website.
Why were you inspired to do this?
I was invited to hear a friend speak at the Adventurer's Club of LA on his Patagonia Hiking trip. My first impression of the club was the large Polar Bear that greets people at the top of the stairs! The Club has been in existence since 1927 and the members meet weekly on a Thursday night. One of the clubs members is the real life Indiana Jones and Life List Legend John Goddard who's Life list is on the wall at the Club. After spending the night hearing my friend speak I knew I wanted to share my Sydney Hobart Story with them.
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
While I was at the Club I was introduced to many members and after talking with them they introduced me to the member who organized speakers.
I contacted the member at the Club and we arranged a date for me to speak. He was very helpful and being a sailor was very interested in my topic.
I organized my notes from the Sydney Hobart Races I did in 2006 & 2007 and prepared a slide show and DVD.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
The club members are very warm and they made me feel very welcome in their company. It felt great to speak of my Hobart experience in the company of other adventurers. An added bonus of the night was that John Goddard came to hear me speak. He is such a warm man and I greatly admire and respect the inspiration he has brought to so many people around the world. His and the other members kind and supportive words to me after I spoke were something I will not soon forget. All toll this was a great experience and the plaque they gave me is now hanging behind my Tiki Bar!
