Take dance lessons for Life Listers Ball
Lifestyle & Fitness: Events

Why were you inspired to do this?

I met someone who enjoys the fun and focus of dancing in a couple as much as I do, and we were throwing the Life Listers' Ball Feb. 5, 2011 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston to bring together My Life List members, supporters and friends. We wanted to bring a good spirit to the dancefloor and encourage others to get up and dance, so we dusted off our dancing shoes and took a lesson.

What were 3 things you did to make this happen?

We had to make time to go into Arthur Murray studio.

Learn to follow. Having never had a decent dance partner before, I had to work on letting someone else direct the motion.

Relax and enjoy the dancing!

How did you feel once you had accomplished this?

It felt wonderful to lead this ball with a dance, to feel confident on the dance floor even when the professional dancers were out there at the same time. I have always felt joy in dancing, this just felt relaxed and fun.

Hubby and I did this when we became engaged to prepare for our wedding. Some serious 'partnership' lessons learned on that floor! Congratulations and hope you continue your lessons.

You're going to love it! It's really fun! We will definitely go back for more lessons, too. I think it would be better without the deadline pressure.

Excellent! Just bought a lesson package for myself and my boyfriend. We've been talking about doing this for well over a year...

Why do you want to do this?

Dancing has always been a great love of mine, since my days of ballet and theater as a little girl. I've finally met someone who enjoys the fun and focus of dancing in a couple, and we're throwing the Life Listers' Ball Feb. 5, 2011 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston to bring together 200 of My Life List's members, supporters and friends. In the process of getting sponsors and prizes, we came to Arthur Murray Dance Studio, an international brand that can help members who have "learn to dance" on their life lists, so we approached them. Of course, we ended up signed up for dance lessons! Foxtrot, Rhumba, Waltz, Swing. We should be quite a sight on the dance floor at the ball -- still as much fun, just less likelihood of spinning into the bandstand!

What three things will you need to make this happen?

Schedule six weeks of time for private lessons, group practice and dance party time (Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays).

Learn to follow! Having never had a decent dance partner before, I have to work on letting someone else direct the motion.

Relax and remember how much I love to dance. Can't wait to try all we learn at the ball in my big red gown!

What is the biggest barrier to your achieving this?

Negotitating my schedule so this becomes part of the weekly routine for the time leading up to the ball, which is going to be complicated given that it's the holidays. But I'm going for it!

Way to go.  I've always loved to dance too. No formal training, but I want to learn how to do Ballroom, Salsa, and Chicago Step.  Oops, I forgot to put these on my life list.  I can't wait to see how your Boston function turns out!

Wow - you are brave people!  Good for both of you and can't wait to hear updates about how it's going.  Frank and I took the same kind of lessons before we were married (for the dancing at the wedding) and it was a true test of our relationship.  Some seriously important lessons were learned on that dance floor.  Wishing you guys all the very best. It's a great way to get to know each other better and to have a laugh too.  I'm sure your dancing will be beautiful.

Look forward to seeing you at the Ball!  I will call for tickets soon!

That's a fantastic goal!  As a ballroom dancer, I am thrilled to see anyone who is pursuing dancing and I'm sure you will be lovely on the dance floor.
