Why were you inspired to do this?
It actually was the strangest timing, all happening at once. I met a new friend who revealed the need for a heart transplant. He has done incredibly inspiring things with his life to raise awareness about organ donation and living without limits. The same week, a very dear friend's father passed away while waiting for a transplant. I had the feeling that the universe was just shouting at me: Do something.
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
I thought about the process. I'd be gone, so it wouldn't matter to me. But a gift of organ donation would be life-saving for someone and an incredible relief to their family.
I had to let my family know that organ donation was a choice I'd made and that if something happened to me, I wanted them to honor my wish.
I had to go to the RMV website and click the option for organ donor so it would be listed on my driver's license.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
It was so easy, and I felt a sense of calm about it, an ease with it. It just makes sense, I will be gone and will have no need for bodily possession. It makes me feel good to know my passing will be of benefit to someone else who deserves to live.
