Why were you inspired to do this?
As a kid growing up in NZ I was always struck by the magnificent beauty of the Matterhorn - it was an icon for what a mountain should look like. I thought it was the most beautiful mountain in the world & dreamed that one day I might be able to see it & possibly climb it. Not only that but it was often featured on the lid of delicious Swiss chocolates that family friends would bring home after trips overseas!
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
I never forgot the impact it left on me as a kid.
I kept it in my consciousness as I got older & would talk about it to friends.
I researched the different routes you could climb it and guiding services that would make it possible.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
The feeling was of overwhelming joy and accomplishment that I somehow made it possible. It seemed so far away as a kid, both geographically & logistically, that there was also a sense of bewilderment.
