Why were you inspired to do this?
I long for challenge and achievement that forces exploration outside my comfort zone. Hiking Mt. Washington is a physical and mental challenge that fulfills this need. It gives a clear purpose to my fitness training that is essential to motivation and accomplishing my goals.
Finally, perhaps most importantly it is an opportunity to create new stories that will deepen friendships. It goes beyond grabbing drinks, watching games or reminiscing old times. Sharing this experience will allow us to live through a new story of suffering, joy, and accomplishment that is unique to those who go on this mission. For me, that is truly living.
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
Find a team of friends who commit to completing the hike
Complete a physical training program (with personal trainer) to prepare physically and mentally.
Research the mountain and proper hiking requirements (weather, gear, etc.) Mt. Washington is known for having dangerously erratic weather.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
What are the feelings of accomplishment when you overcome a challenge? Inspired, over-joyed, euphoric, blissfully exhausted, justifiably sore, a sense of achievement, pride, and finally, grateful.
We'll add, inspired to tackle a new challenge.
Additional notes and tips:
A group of college friends get together every year for reunion. We planned this hike for the day before the reunion. It seemed like a perfect way to start the long weekend with friends. We hope to inspire more people to join us next year.
